Four Charged In Connection With String Of Vandalisms
Four men have been arrested and charged in connection with a string of vandalisms in Manchester, police said.
Investigators said that a trailer owned by the business Mattress Cloud was set on fire at about 3 a.m. Wednesday. The trailer was used to store mattresses and was destroyed.
Police said the windows and doors of several area businesses, including Leslie's Swimming Pool Supplies, were smashed.
Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After 66 Cats Removed From Home
A Newton woman has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty after police discovered she was living with 66 cats in her home.
Police said Suzanne James was running a breeding business out of her home without a state license. Last month police removed the cats along with a dog, a rabbit, and two guinea hens from James' home. Four of the animals had to be euthanized.
Investigators said that the animals had produced so much urine that ammonia levels in the house were high enough to cause brain damage.
Man Charged In Clinton Office Hostage-Taking To Plead Guilty
A Somersworth, N.H., man accused of taking hostages last year at one of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign offices plans to plead guilty to the charges later this year after finishing a program to address substance-abuse problems.
Randy Hawkes, the lawyer for Leeland Eisenberg, 47, said he expects a plea and sentencing to be scheduled for his client sometime in September, after Eisenberg completes a 90-day therapeutic community program. He filed a court notice of his intent to plea earlier this year.
Eisenberg has been held at Strafford County Jail since Nov. 30. He faces six felonies -- four counts of kidnapping, one count of criminal threatening and one count of false reports of an explosive device.
Police are investigating two head-on crashes that killed three people in New Hampshire Monday.
In Wakefield, two drivers died when a pickup and station wagon crashed around 5:30 p.m., Monday, on Route 16. Police said the driver of the station wagon, 31-year-old Peter Stock, of Wolfeboro, was declared dead at the scene. The other driver, 60-year-old Thomas Sammarco, of Millis, Mass., was flown to Maine Medical Center, where he later died.
In Hinsdale, police said 69-year-old Marleen Freeh, of Hinsdale, was killed when her car crossed the center line on Route 119 just before 3 p.m. and hit an oncoming vehicle. The other driver, 27-year-old Arna Thibeau, of Salem, N.Y., was seriously hurt. Three children in her car suffered minor injuries.
New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte said the killing of a 20-year-old woman is now being investigated as a homicide.
Police said they were called to Morrison Lane around 7:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a shooting. Police said four people were sitting in an SUV when one of them fired a gun. The bullet struck and killed Deidre Budzyna.
An autopsy Friday revealed Budzyna died of a single gunshot wound to the back.
Cheryl James said she had only made it a couple hundred feet up a Gilford trail with her dog when she heard her car alarm go off. When she returned to her car, there was no sign of anything wrong, and she went home.
A short time later, her bank called to tell her that someone was using her credit card. That's when James noticed her wallet was gone, she said.
"Somebody had been watching me while I was alone in a nice park area," James said.
Truck Rolls Away From Repair Shop, Crashes Into House
A pickup truck being worked on rolled away from a repair shop and crashed into an apartment building in Manchester on Thursday, injuring a woman in the building.
Police said the truck crashed into a building near the intersection of Massabesic and Cypress streets. A woman inside the building was taken to a hospital. Her injuries weren't specified, but police said they were not serious.
Other people in the apartment building were evacuated.
Thieves have been siphoning gas out of cars parked in Hampton Falls homes, police said.
Residents said several car owners have found their gas tanks emptier than they were when they parked their cars. Resident Jay Thompson said that two cars have been hit on his street.
"So when I saw it on the news, I wondered who it was and checked on my own gas tank to make sure it wasn't mine," he said.
